Group Work Programmes
Self Esteem Group Work
A children group work which helps children from 7 to 9 years old identify their strengths and improve their communication and interpersonal skills.
A psycho-educational group work which offers a safe and supportive environment for members to share their financial experiences and learn from each other. It is a hands-on group work which requires the members to carry out several financial exercises which would eventually be translated into their own households as well.
Community Work Programmes
The project was started in 2010 with the objective to empower home-bound women from low income disadvantage backgrounds to earn some salary in order to supplement their family income. Besides our Centre’s sewists, SOWERS is also in collaboration with various community partners, the Movement for Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) and North West Community Development Council (NWCDC) which supply the banners.
Asset Based Community Development Project
Harnessing the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, our Centre has successfully reached out to the residents of the three rental blocks at Wellington Circle and Sembawang Drive. Our Centre will continue to utilize the information gathered to harness the assets, strengths and potential of the community living in the rental estates to plan events and projects to benefit their own community.
The successes of our outreach activities with other stakeholders has also led our Centre to welcome the continuation of collaborations with the various significant community stakeholders, like Canberra Community Club for Canberra Day for over 1,000 residents of the Canberra Division since 2011, the Covenant Community Methodist Church (CCMC) for CCMC SFSC Bursary Award, Mayfair Park Christmas Party, Banquet of Love, a family bonding activity for low income families since 2012.
